Club Leon is facing an uncertain situation in the Club World Cup. The FIFA Appeal Committee announced that the Mexican team does not meet the criteria defined in Article 10.1 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Regulations.
What happened?
The FIFA Appeal Committee highlighted that after a thorough evaluation of the government and operations of Pachuca and Leon, it is demonstrated that their simultaneous participation in the World Cup does not comply with Article 10 of the Regulations.
Why is it important for Club Leon?
The FIFA decision means that Club Leon could be replaced in the tournament. The FIFA General Secretariat will decide which club can be finally admitted and how Club Leon will be replaced in the tournament to be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13.
What's next?
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) confirmed that it had received individual appeals from Mexican clubs Leon and Pachuca to declare that both meet the requirements to participate in this year's Club World Cup. The FIFA Appeal Committee decided that both clubs breached the competition regulations (Art.10.1) in relation to the multiple ownership of clubs.
